An Aboriginal Legacy in Every Handcrafted Detail
JR represents my initials, Jennifer Richards. I am an artist born at Papunya Community, west of Alice Springs, and I grew up in remote communities outside of Alice Springs called Amoonguna and Santa Teresa. My skin name is Nangala. I am an Arrernte woman—Indian from my father’s lineage, and Luritja and Warlpiri from my mother’s lineage for painting.
My mother’s side paintings are well known and sold all over the world, with exhibitions for Papunya Tjupi Arts, an art centre and gallery at Papunya. I enjoy working with my niece, Lacota Dixon, from my father’s side, and other members of the family, including my younger sister who passed away.
My artwork reflects my journey, my culture, and the spirit of Desert Country in Central Australia.
In the past, I made necklaces from gumnuts and painted them in many beautiful colours, and they were sold to art galleries. Now I paint on canvases of all sizes, and my artwork is about Country. My paintings reflect the places I have travelled to: fishing up north, visiting family, swimming at waterholes, rivers, and lakes, and hunting for bush tuckers. I also create many spiritual paintings that are deeply important to me. Now, I apply my artwork to jewellery, watches, clothing, and other items.

Aria Montgomery
"Supporting an Aboriginal woman-owned business is an honor. My watch is a conversation starter that blends luxury with profound heritage flawlessly."
David Sinclair
"The depth of the art showcased at JR Creative Arts is unparalleled. Each garment feels like a canvas, telling a story of survival, beauty, and strength."
